Recent Changes to SCS 9. Some features only available in SCS-Standard and/or SCS-Professional.

Version 9.5.3 (Apr 2008)
  • Supports environments where there is no PC mixer.
  • Corrected error that could occur when closing and re-opening the Editor when viewing or editing MIDI Send cues.
  • Some audio library features used by SCS are not supported by Creative Labs' sound card drivers (eg Sound Blaster and Audigy). Previously you had to clear the 'Use software mixer' SCS Audio Driver option, set 'Do not use floating point', clear 'Force enabling of speaker assignments', and you had to avoid using numbered speaker selections like 'Output 1/2'. SCS 9.5.3 now internally controls all these settings where the card appears to be a Creative Labs card, so users with Sound Blaster or Audigy cards no longer have to manually apply the settings.
Version 9.5.2 (Feb 2008)
Please note: If you have an RME sound card then please see the sample rate mod below. In SCS 9.5.0 and 9.5.1 the sample rate was set to 48KHz, but in 9.5.2 the default sample rate has been changed back to 44.1KHz (as it was prior to 9.5.0) and a new option is available to set the sample rate as required. AFAIK this is only relevant for RME sound card users, but if you find your files play either fast or slow you may need to adjust the sample rate option.
  • Fixed an error that could occur when a playlist changes tracks while the editor is open at a different playlist.
  • Now ignores mixers where the driver returns an invalid response at startup. (NB this has only been reported once - with a SoundMax driver - so it is not a common problem.)
  • With MIDI Control, the MIDI command for a global operation (eg Go Back) may duplicate a MIDI command for a cue-related operation (eg Play Cue 123). If this occurs, the global operation takes priority, making that particular MIDI cue number (123 in this example) unavailable.
  • An attempt to enter a negative time is now rejected. This affects fields like 'Sub-Cue Relative Start Time', 'Transition Time' in a Playlist, and all other time fields.
  • An ampersand (&) in a field like 'When Required' is now displayed correctly.
  • Fixed a couple of errors in checking and processing cue file imports.
  • If the Windows language is other than English then some boolean (True/False) options and properties were processed incorrectly - usually processed as "False" regardless of their actual state. Now fixed.
  • Corrected an error that could cause a changed field in the Editor to be applied against the wrong sub-cue if the Editor is closed and re-opened prior to the field being validated (eg by changing a field and then closing the Editor before tabbing out of the field).
  • Added a "Sample Rate" option to the Audio Driver Options. Probably only necessary for RME WDM drivers. See the Audio Driver Options Help for details.
  • Fixed an "invalid handle" error that could occur on switching from the Editor back to the Run Screen and playing the current cue where that cue has multiple sub-cues including a looped sub-cue.
Version 9.5.1 (Jan 2008)
  • Fixed 'error 380' occurring for Demo and Lite users when clicking on the Production properties in the Editor.
  • With Time Based Cues, if you clear a 'Time of Day' field the field now remains clear instead of being incorrectly changed to 'Manual'.
Version 9.5.0 (Jan 2008)
  • In addition to the existing MIDI Control commands for 'Play Cue' and 'Go Button', you can now specify MIDI commands for 'Pause/Resume Cue', 'Release Cue', 'Fade Out Cue', 'Stop Cue', 'Go To Cue', 'Load Cue', 'Unload Cue', 'Stop Everything', 'Pause/Resume All', 'Go To Top', 'Go Back', and 'Go To Next'. (NB there are some restrictions on these new commands.)
  • MIDI Cue Numbers are no longer auto-assigned when you create cues. This makes it easier to manage which cues are available for MIDI control, and avoids the possibility that you have a MIDI cue number assigned that you didn't know about.
  • A 'Run Mode' property has been added to Production Properties. The default Run Mode is 'Linear', which means you expect to start at the top and work progressively thru your cues, with the possible exception of Hot Key cues which can be played at any time. New Run Modes are available for Non-Linear processing, where cues may be played in any order, such as when SCS is used as a playback source for Palladium from CH Sound Design.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented RS232 Control from working properly.
  • You can now specify RS232 Control messages for 'Stop Cue', 'Stop Everything' and 'Go To Top'.
  • Additional options are available for configuring the RS232 port, enabling SCS to be controlled by an AMX Netlinx Control System.
  • The demo files are now installed in a folder under "My Documents" or "Documents". Previously they were written to the "Sound Cue System 9" folder under "Program Files", but if a user edited the demo cue file and clicked "Save" in a Vista environment then Vista would block the update as updates to "Program Files" are not generally permitted.
  • If you change the SCS color scheme the new scheme file is now written to "My Documents" or "Documents". Previously it was written to the "Sound Cue System 9" folder under "Program Files".
  • Fixed an error related to deleting the first sub-cue of a cue that has exactly two sub-cues.
  • Fixed a minor bug in setting up new time profiles.
  • Improved the handling of changing cues in the Editor's cue list, particularly with relation to changing cue before an Audio File graph has completed.
  • Added a new 'action' to SFR cues: "Stop at Track End", which can be used to stop a playlist at the end of the current track.
  • The 'Go Back' button can now be activated by Ctrl/B. This enables 'Go Back' to be mapped to a button on a Honeywell Power Presenter remote control.
  • Corrected the color selection for painting the Hot Key panel.
  • Added a 'Pause All' / 'Resume All' button.
  • Additional audio file formats may be available to SCS Professional and Professional Plus users if appropriate plugins are available.
Version 9.4.6 (Sep 2007)
  • Added new fade-out types 'Linear SE' and 'Log SE' which provide a 'slow end' to fade outs. (Not currently available for level changes - only for fade outs.)
  • Dragging audio files into a playlist could cause a 'subscript out of range' error. Now fixed.
  • Files saved with an earlier version 9 (eg 9.3.6) could be have inconsistencies with the current version regarding the assignment of default devices. To resolve this issue the program may ask the user for the file version when reading a cue file saved with a version pre-9.4.5.
  • Minor change regarding the registration of user names containing extended characters.
  • Fixed issue with audio file cues being stopped and reset to their start position (such as in a playlist set to continuous play).
Version 9.4.5 (Sep 2007)
  • If you de-select a defaulted audio device in an audio file cue, the default device is no longer re-instated when you next open that cue file.
  • Refinements to field validation procedures in the Editor.
  • Fixed up some issues with Standby cues.
  • Ensure audio files are closed as soon as possible after completion of the respective cue(s).
  • Number of devices for Playlist Level Change cues is now shown correctly in the Editor.
Version 9.4.4 (Aug 2007)
  • Corrected an error in the fix applied in 9.4.3 that caused the PC Mixer controls to be panned left if mixer settings are saved and restored.
Version 9.4.3 (Aug 2007)
  • Fixed a memory allocation error that could cause the program to crash during initialization.
  • Fixed an error in setting the 'Go' button if skipping a Time-Based Cue with the new 'Manual Start' option.
Version 9.4.2 (Aug 2007)
  • Minor change to the way the end of a MIDI file is detected during playback.
  • For Time-Based Cues you may now specify a cue to have Manual start for a selected Time Profile (or Time Profiles).
  • If MIDI Control is set, or if a MIDI Out or Thru port has been specified, then a button is displayed on the main screen to allow you to temporarily disable MIDI In and Out messages, if required.
  • In the Production Properties you can now select <no device> as the physical device. This enables you to set up cues for more devices than you have available on the current computer.
  • Fixed an error associated with displaying the graph in the editor where the same audio file is used in multiple cues.
  • Fixed an error associated with 'before end' auto-start cues where the controlling cue has both a loop and a fade-out time.
  • Fixed an error in the editor that would set the fade type to 'Linear' for the first audio file sub-cue displayed, even if the saved fade type was 'Log'.
  • Fixed an error that could cause an audio file sub-cue containing a loop to lose timing properties if the fade-in or fade-out time is greater than the file length (which is valid for a sub-cue containing a loop).
  • Fixed an error associated with starting a time-based cue in the Editor and then not being able to stop the cue from the main window. A similar error could occur with cues using multiple outputs.
Version 9.4.1 (Jul 2007)
  • Fixed a display error associated with resizing the main window.
  • Fixed an error that can occur on opening a cue file if a required device does not exist.
Version 9.4.0 (Jul 2007)
  • In the Editor you can now zoom in and out on the audio file graph.
  • The audio file graph now displays separate wave forms for left and right channels. The previous display format is also available, displaying a combined wave form showing the left channel in the top half and the right channel in the bottom half. Other refinements to the display include the dimming of the parts of the graph before the start point and after the end point, when applicable.
  • A trim control is now available for each device on each audio file cue. This enables you to more easily set and control levels on cues to be played softly.
  • MIDI files are now supported for SCS Professional users. MIDI files are played through a selected MIDI Playback Device which may be an external device or an internal software synth. The primary purpose of the facility is to play MIDI files through an external sound module or similar, as often used by professional musicians.
  • When a cue file (a *.scs file) is opened, SCS now checks immediately for the existence of all required audio files. A File Locator screen is displayed if any files cannot be found, with a list of files not found. You may then browse for a file using the Locate button and when a file is located SCS will check if any of the other missing files are in the same folder.
  • In the Editor you can now create a Production Folder into which SCS will save your cue file and copy all required audio files. If you subsequently add other audio files to your cue list you can resync the Production Folder. This feature makes it easier to transfer your setup from your home or studio computer to your theatre computer, as all the audio files you need will be in the same folder as your cue file.
  • You can now import selected cues from another cue file, and export selected cues to another cue file.
  • The cue file dialogs (Open, Save, and Save As) now start from the folder last used when a cue file was opened or saved.
  • In the Run Window you can now change the font size for the list of cues in the upper part of the screen.
  • You can also change the number of display panels for cue details, even removing them altogether.
  • You can suppress the display of multiple sub-cues per cue in the display panels. This means that for a cue with multiple sub-cues, only one sub-cue (normally the first) will be displayed.
  • The Hot Key List is now hidden if there are no hot keys defined. You can also choose to always hide the Hot Key List. The space freed up is used by the cue display panels.
  • In Print Cue List you can now ignore sub-cues. Also, where sub-cues are included they are only printed where there are two or more sub-cues.
  • In Print Cue List you can now change the font sizes.
  • Fixed an error related to releasing a loop in a cue where the length of the loop was less than the 'playback buffer' time. The 'playback buffer' time for such a cue is now dynamically reduced to be less than the loop length.
  • Fixed an error related to auto-starting a cue n seconds before the end of an earlier cue when the fade-out button on the earlier cue was activated.
  • * A Level Change cue that operates on an Audio File cue with multiple output devices may now apply level changes to selected devices only.
  • * A new license level of SCS Professional Plus has been introduced. This contains all the features of SCS Professional but provides for up to 16 output devices overall and up to 8 devices per audio file cue. Other features will be added to SCS Professional Plus later.
* Initially included in the limited release 9.3.7.
